As 2019 is drawing to an end and the festive holidays are close by, I would like to take a couple of minutes of your attention in this busy period to briefly update you about EFIM activities of the incoming year.

As you may be aware, this year the European Congress of Internal Medicine (ECIM) was held in Lisbon at the end of August. It was a great success with around 2000 attendees not only from Europe but also from Americas, Asia and Africa. I would like to thank Prof. Luis Campos, the past President of the Portuguese society who served as ECIM 2019 President and the organizing agency for the fantastic job they did and supported EFIM and myself in organising the congress.

The main idea of the scientific program was providing a clinical update as well as an update on professional and innovative issues in Internal medicine. As it has been highly appreciated by the attendant, we will try to maintain it and, if possible, to improve, this format.

As it was announced during the General Assembly in Lisbon, we decided to move the date of the ECIM from end-of-August to March, a month less congested with European and local competing congresses. We decided however to avoid having two ECIMs at a short (6-months distance) and we set the date of the next ECIM 18 – 20 in March 2021, Spain. I have the pleasure to invite you to our upcoming congress in collaboration with Kenes Group, our congress organiser and Dr Ricardo Gomez Huelgas, current President of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine.

This means that we will not have a full scientific meeting in 2020. However to partially compensate for this, we decided to incorporate the traditional EFIM Day, which was usually held in Brussels in mid-March, during the 6th McMaster International Review Course in Internal Medicine (MIRCIM), which will take place in the beautiful historic city of Kraków, Poland, on May 7–9, 2020.

MIRCIM has been conceived and developed by the McMaster University Department of Medicine, the birthplace of evidence-based medicine and problem-based learning, and the Polish Institute for Evidence Based Medicine. It is organized in collaboration with us and the Jagiellonian University Medical College. It is a three-day course that will be filled with information-packed lectures delivered by an outstanding assembly of speakers who are world-renowned experts in their fields, from authors of clinical practice guidelines to researchers behind breakthrough trials that shape the modern standards in medicine. One of this session, called EFIM DAY – Controversies in Internal Medicine will be in parallel with the Course. Therefore we thought to “kill two birds with one stone” inviting you to join the EFIM Day at MIRCIM in Krakow!

Thank you very much for your consideration and the renewed enthusiasm for our joint activities,

On behalf of the Executive Board of EFIM, I wish you and your families the Best Season Holidays and a Fantastic New year.

Sincerely Yours,

Nicola Montano
